My Rating:
Sporting a fantastic cast, clever story and witty comedy, Horrible Bosses is the first comedy this summer that is actually worth your time and money. Not like that terrible comedy that came out earlier this year... *cough The Hangover 2 *cough.
The premise to this movie is pretty simple; Nick's (Jason Bateman) boss Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey) is a psychopath who has been overworking and manipulating Nick for the past eight years. Kurt's (Jason Sudeikis) boss, Bobby Pellit (Colin Farrell) is a coke snorting man-whore who is milking his father's company dry, making Kurt do all of his dirty work. Dale's (Charlie Day) boss, Dr. Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston) is a nymphomaniac who sexually harasses Dale on a daily basis, threatening to ruin his engagement. Our three main characters finally reach their breaking point one night over a few beers and decide that they need to kill their bosses. Looking for a hit-man, the trio find themselves in a seedy bar where they find their "murder consulant" Motherfucker Jones (Jamie Foxx). Jones basically pulls a page from Hitchcock's, Strangers on a Train, suggesting that the trio kill each others bosses to avoid any suspicion. Our inept trio then proceed to plan and carryout their plan for murder.
Bateman, Day and Sudeikis are a fabulous comedic trio, they play off of each other so well you would think that they had been friends for years. I have a feeling this will be Day's break-out role. Spacey and Farrell also take home great performances, but it is Aniston's performance that surprised me the most. I didn't realize she could be as funny as she was in this flick.
My only complaint about this movie, that really isn't a complaint, is that it could have been a lot darker. I was really hoping for something in the vein of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, or Burn After Reading. In particular, Burn After Reading's scene where Brad Pitt's character is hiding in the closet. If you have no idea what I am talking about Netflix the classic.
Overall this is a solid film that is worth your time and money, go see it while it is still in theaters.
