PREVIEW: THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

In 2011, American audiences will get a remake of the Swedish film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Do we really need a remake of this movie? No, not really, the Swedish version was fantastic. It would seem that Hollywood is running out of original ideas, that and American audiences can’t be troubled to read subtitles.

That said I am looking forward to this remake. Why you might ask? Because director, David Fincher (The Social Network) is teaming up with writer, Steven Zaillian (American Gangster) and composer Trent Reznor (Man on Fire). I have faith that this combination will create a remake that is on par with the original, if not better. My only hesitation with this remake is that Rooney Mara is filling the big shoes left by Noomi Rapace. Only time will tell if she can pull it off. Look for this remake to drop December 2011.

Take a look at the official synopsis:

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her beloved uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) and the tattooed and troubled but resourceful computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) to investigate.

When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger’s are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

Below are the first official photos of Mara as Lisbeth Salander:
