The Dark Knight Rises Villains Announced

After Christopher Nolan's news a few months ago where he announced the name of the next film in his Batman Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, many were confused when he announced a lack of anything, other than what won't be in the film, including the classic villain, The Riddler.

Speculation rose as usual, no one really having a clue what he could be planning for the next film.

Just recently, Nolan announced that Anne Hathaway will be playing the role of Selina Kyle (also known as Catwoman) in the upcoming picture. Catwoman has always had a rocky history with Batman, being a love interest as well as a rival in some classic books, including Batman: Year One.

Nolan also announced that Tom Hardy (see Bronson Review) will be playing the muscular, rage filled villain, Bane in the film. “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies."

As usual, Nolan keeps to the Batman film structure of having two villains (Batman Begins: Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow; The Dark Knight: The Joker, Two-Face) and is showing that the Caped Crusader can always chew what he bites off.

I'm excited to see where Nolan is going to take the complicated love/hate relationship with Batman and Catwoman, and how he's going to end the trilogy with Bane at the center of the chaos. I'm still questioning if Hathaway will be able to take control of her character, but I have to put my faith in Nolan that he knows what he's doing.

The Dark Knight Rises, directed by Christopher Nolan, is set to release on July 20th, 2012.
