Reactions:
Josh: For the most part, I was not shocked by any of the winners. Everyone that won, deserved to win. Although, I was a little sad to see Hailee Steinfeld lose in the Best Supporting Actress category. I think it would have been quite the story to see her win an Oscar on her first movie. That said I wasn't disappointed to see Melissa Leo win, especially after her awesome acceptance speech. The only shock of the night for me came during the Documentary category, I really thought Exit Through the Gift Shop or Restrepo had the best chance of winning.
Oh and did anyone else think that James Franko looked stoned half way through the awards?
Mark: Damn! Josh beat me. Like he said above, no dark horses really came out of no where to steal any Oscars. The King's Speech had enough buzz to make another Toy Story. What I'm most disappointed about: Best Documentary. Like Josh said, either Restrepo or Exit Through the Gift Shop deserved it. What I'm most excited about: Best Cinematography. Wally Pfister has been nominated 3 times previous to 2011, all for films he's worked on with Christopher Nolan. I've looked up to Pfister for years, he makes movies look like they should. I was excited to see his classic, anti-3D, pro-union self up on stage. I'm pretty happy I guessed all of the actor categories right, some of them could have been toss-ups.
I'm happy I got to see all 10 best picture nominees for once. I can honestly say that The King's Speech was one of the better films of the year and deserved some recognition.
And doesn't Tom Hooper look like a young James Cameron?! I hope not.
Here's to another year of filmmaking at it's finest. We can't wait to see what comes next.
